The Canadian Innovation Exchange (CIX) is thrilled to announce Geordie Rose, founder and CTO of D-Wave will be receiving the inaugural Innovator of the Year Award at this year’s Canadian Innovation Exchange.
Awarded in recognition of Canadian innovative excellence, the CIX Innovator of the Year Award recognizes someone who has made a significant contribution to the innovation ecosystem within digital media and information and communication technologies.
Rose’s innovative and ambitious approach to building quantum computing technology has received coverage in MIT Technology Review magazine, The Economist, New Scientist, Scientific American and Science magazines, and one of his business strategies was profiled in a Harvard Business School case study. He has received several awards and accolades for his work with D-Wave, including being short-listed for a 2005 World Technology Award.

CIX Co-Chairs, Rick Nathan, Robert Montgomery and Chris Arsenault announced this year's CIX Top 20 and also opened the market this morning, November 10th, 2011.

Each company in CIX Top 20 will showcase live at CIX in a fast-paced, expertly-curated series of presentations, this December 1st, 2011. This elite showcase, unique to CIX, offers an up-to-the-minute glimpse of the most innovative Canadian technology-based companies.
CIX has partnered with homegrown, Edmonton-based technology company, Empire Avenue for the gamification of the CIX Top 20 - an elite showcase of Canada's hottest innovative companies.
This December 1st, CIX will offer a virtual stock exchange through which conference delegates can – in real-time – buy, sell and trade virtual shares of companies on the CIX Top 20. Delegates will be encouraged to engage in game play and to bid virtual currency on the CIX Top 20. This real time virtual stock exchange will be incorporated with the conference mobile tool, and the conference will feature live screens updating the participating company's "market price" as they present their technology before a panel of judges, some for the first time.
At the end of the day, the company with the highest stock value in Digital Media and ICT will each be recognized as the People's Choice company.
The CIX Top 20, Twenty of Canada's most innovative technology-based businesses in Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) and Digital Media, have been hand selected to showcase live at the event and will be announced later this week.
